Behind the Scenes of our Italian Exhibition
Tonight, the gallery transforms as we get ready to welcome guests to a very special exhibition celebrating Italian art and culture.
The first step is resetting the space itself. Pieces that have hung in their usual positions come down, and the collection is rehung entirely around tonight's theme – in this case, a celebration of Kristan's love of Italy and the work born from Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan. Every piece is placed with intention, considering not just what looks striking on its own, but how each work speaks to the ones beside it, and how a guest will naturally move through the story as they walk the room.
Alongside the art, there's the guest list – carefully curated to bring together the right mix of Italian officials, collectors, artists, and friends, each one invited with tonight's theme in mind. For an evening built around Italy, that list carries a little extra thought: guests who share that same connection to the country, its culture, and its art.
Atmosphere is everything on a night like this. Our wine partner, Mount Towrong Winery, has specifically been chosen to complement the theme rather than simply accompany it. Music has been selected to set the right ambiance without ever overpowering conversation, and the gallery itself closes its doors to the public to ensure that tonight is turned into something more private and more considered.
In the final hours before doors open, the details that matter most are often the smallest ones. A last walkthrough of the space, checking lighting and sightlines, shining the wine glasses, making sure the ‘Sold’ stickers are readily available. By the time the doors open, every detail has been considered, and the gallery is ready to tell its story for the night.
