What’s Next for Oud Art?
Take a look around our Collins Street gallery and you'll find pieces from all over the world – Tokyo, London, Rome, Paris, New York, Milan, and more. Which leads to the obvious question: what's next?
As visitors browse the artwork on display, a natural curiosity arises about which countries and cities Kristan will make his mark on next – and bring back to the gallery for us all to enjoy.
In terms of international travel, the next destinations will likely be New York and South Carolina. New York is something of a second home for Kristan, a city he returns to time and again to capture its architecture, energy, and cultural moments. With a strong client base there too, it remains important for him to keep providing New York's collectors with new work for their walls.
The South Carolina trip comes as the result of a new commission: a series capturing the state's grand historic mansions, each one a study in the scale and elegance of the American South.
Closer to home, Kristan continues to work on commissions for the Australian Government and for private collectors across Melbourne.
As for what you can expect to see in the gallery soon – as Melbourne pieces are bought from our shelves, more will take their place. What started in 2020 as small beach sketches has grown into a ten-year documentary project, one Kristan describes as capturing "the roaring twenties," due to conclude in 2030.
Rather than following a single location, the series follows how the city itself changes over time – which jobs remain as automation reshapes the world of work, and which rituals endure. Restaurants, live music, major sporting events – all continue to be recorded exactly as they unfold.
To date, the series has focused almost entirely on the CBD, although Kristan now has plans to expand it further into the suburbs – the coastal roads, and areas such as South Yarra, Toorak, and Kew.
With new pieces added every week, pop by to see what's now on display. You might well be the first to see it – and the only one to take it home.
