Washington Square Park is a lively hub in Manhattan, where street musicians create a vibrant jazz scene under the arch. Students from nearby universities pass through daily, adding energy and diversity. The park blends art, culture, and conversation, making it a meeting place for creativity and urban life every single day too there.

This piece was made during my second visit to New York. I've never seen the famous archway of Washington Square Park and was so delighted to be greeted with such beautiful music by the musicians. It was a peaceful afternoon and despite the cot I spent a number of hours enjoying the music and drawing this location. In one corner of the square sit about a dozen people playing chess.

The scene relates to the exploration of the human soul in so far as it always made me that musicians will play for free and rely on the generality of others to leave them tips. It is such an expression of the human soul to make music - so many happy faces as they walked about the square.
