A Tale of Two Galleries

Think about the last time you walked into a gallery. How did it make you feel? In awe of the scale of it? Uncertain where to look first? Or perhaps quietly at home, drawn in by something you couldn't quite name?

Galleries, like people, have a personality. And the experience of walking into one shapes everything – how long you stay, how closely you look, and whether you leave with something you love.

Our previous home on Collins Street had a particular kind of presence. Soaring ceilings, pristine white walls, an atmosphere designed to impress – to host events, to showcase, to make a statement. It was a space that commanded attention, and it did so beautifully.

This new space does something different entirely.

Richly painted walls and a thoughtfully composed interior create an atmosphere that is warm and unhurried – somewhere you are encouraged to wander, to pause, to look again. The wooden furnishings ground the space in something timeless, with an interior that feels considered rather than cavernous. This is a gallery that wants you to stay.

Kristan's Melbourne sketch series winds through the central space across a series of round display tables, each drawing revealed as you circle it – a slow spiral of the city's restaurants, bars, architecture, and character. Armchairs by the entrance invite you to sit, to talk, and to take your time finding the piece that is truly right for you.

Come in. Take your time. The right piece is waiting for you.

We'd love for you to join us at our upcoming gallery opening – if interested, please get in touch via contact@oud.art.
